Travels

Airports…wonderful places to practice patience and calmness. Aaaargh!
The taxi driver couldn’t understand why I would want to go somewhere colder than Glasgow if it wasn’t to ski.
“So what’s Minnesota got?”
“Lots of lakes.”
“You’re going for water sports?”
“No…they’ll all be frozen anyway.”
[*baffled silence*]
“You have family there?”
“No.”
“…”
hee hee
In other news, there may be a road trip [...]

Balmaha Forest

I love, love, love, love, love what you can do with infra-red sensitive film.
I took these pictures in spring a couple of years back in the forest near Balmaha on the east side of Loch Lomond. There’s a big oak tree there that was struck by lightning and had split 4 ways and peeled [...]

Brodgar

I’m still working my way through spools of film from the September tour. This afternoon I spent some time in the darkroom where I meant to do some rough prints from a roll of HP5+. But there were a couple of frames that I liked the look of, so I spent a few [...]

0920 From Glasow Central…

I’m on the train south, between Motherwell and Lockerbie. In fact, the same area where the weekend retreat was held. It’s grey and drizzly, the clouds are halfway down the low rolling hills. The colours are all very subdued greens and browns and, of course, greys. The colours of Scotland! There’s [...]

Milbury

There was a children’s TV drama back in the mid-70s called Children of the Stones. I don’t remember it particularly well, but I do remember that: standing stones were a major element in the story; it was very compelling viewing for me; and something about it really spooked me at the time.
The other week [...]

Yule

This morning when the clouds cleared in the north there was just the slightest dusting of snow on the Campsie Fells. Usually it’s a sign that winter’s coming and it’s nice to see it in late November or early December – I enjoy the cold. Partly because it makes me feel so alive [...]

Burning the Good Stuff

On the retreat Sunday, we had a little ritual outside around the fire.
Ratnadevi and Larry had asked us to think about the last six months and what had happened, and the next six months and what we’d like to happen. In any context – spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially…whatever you think is important [...]

My Favourite Girl

I had a wonderful weekend retreat of yoga, chi kung and meditation. But I don’t have any pictures and this is my picture journal so here are some pictures of Dal!

A Last Few Pictures From November In The Park

I like November a lot. The light gets really warm late in the month because the sun doesn’t get so high. Lots of the trees are bare, and a few others are still hanging on. With the low sun you get nice back lighting even at midday, so you can get the [...]
