Callanish I
In August when I threw caution to the wind, abandoned the day job to work for myself, and took what feels like a really important step in my life, I set myself a simple little task. Something that I would enjoy greatly, not something onerous. Simply to photographically document the changes in Pollock [...]

Here in Britain the roads tend to go around things that are no longer there. Which makes it take longer (sometimes much longer) to get from A to B. In the USA, the roads tend to follow long straight East-West or North-South roads. Which makes it more [...]
So, having cooled off and taking a more objective look at the slides that Jessops processed…I still think they did a horrible job. Damn!
But they’re definitely not all bad. I like more of them today than I did yesterday. For example, there are quite a few sunset pictures of the Ring of [...]
Grrr!
I don’t use colour film all that much, but when I do I sometimes do my own colour processing. But I’m not good at it. I’m inconsistent, the colour balance tends to go awry. So I did the sensible thing and had the 6 rolls of colour transparency film from the Figure8 [...]
The Observer (a UK newspaper) has a list of the 100 greatest novels of all time.
Clearly any such list is either very subjective or a complete nonsense (or, indeed, subjectively both). Nevertheless, it interests me.
I’ve read 28 of them. And I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. [...]

This chair with the fishy carving was quite tricky because of the contrast – very little light from the front, strong sunlight from the back. Other than the blown-out highlights in the window at the top-left it all held together pretty well.
Contrariwise, I wanted to put a lot [...]
Read the rest of this entry »This afternoon I spent a few hours in the darkroom (actually the bathroom with cardboard over the window and trays of chemicals over the bath) making some prints of the first black and white film from the Figure8 tour.
Mostly these are pictures from St Conan’s Kirk on the north shore of Loch Awe. This [...]
Oooh – I have friends! Thanks
A friend’s band, The Goldenhour were the support band for Lynyrd Skynyrd and Deep Purple a few weeks ago. Tonight they were in a much more intimate setting, playing an acoustic(-ish) gig at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow. A hugely enjoyable show – nice [...]
I shot quite a few pictures on the Figure8 tour of Scotland last month…600-odd digital pictures and 19 spools of film. It’ll take a while to get them all the “real” pictures processed and printed, but some of the digital pictures are quite pleasing!
These are from Salen on the Isle of Mull.
